    Cage Cleaning Procedures

    These instructions are for cages that are store bought and have trays.


    Daily Wipe bars of cage down with sponge, Clorox wipes or any safe cleaning agent to prevent food/feces from sticking.
    Every Other Day Remove tray, change paper and wash tray, dry and replace with new paper and return to cage.
    Weekly
    1. Remove your sugar glider from its normal cage, and move it to a travel cage or zipper pouch.
    2. Remove the cage cover and pouch and wash in washing machine, no bleach, no fabric softener.
    3. Remove tray from bottom of cage, throw away newspaper, wash with dish soap and rinse thoroughly. Set aside to dry.
    4. Dissemble bottom of cage, wash thoroughly, scrubbing away any food/feces. Set aside to dry.
    5. For cage part: (tub works best)
    6. a. with a mix of dish soap and water, and brush, scrub all bars very well. Rinse

                        b. Repeat a, rinse again

                        c. spray with a mixture of 25% bleach and 75% water. Let sit 10 minutes.

                        d. Rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse (at least 4 times well)

                        e. Let sit/shake off, rub down with towel to dry (let it sit until toys are washed)


    7. Toys/Wheel/ water bottle/branches

                        a. Let soak in hot soapy water for 15 minutes

                        b. Rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse

                        c. Spray with Bleach mix, let sit 10 minutes

                        d. Rinse at least 4 times

                        e. Dry


    8. Reassemble cage— move things around, add new toys (gliders get bored easily, moving things around helps)
    9. Replace tray, line with a few layers of black and white newspaper—NO COLORED INK, papers towels, puppy pads or any other safe type bedding.
    10. Pouch: Check for loose threads or holes, cut loose threads, fix holes, or replace pouch
    11. Furnish the cage with all its accesories and put your gliders back in their spotless home!!

    It is very important to remember that bacteria grows when cages are not properly cleaned.
    Bacteria can lead to disease and even death. Keep those cages sparking and germ free!
